As part of the Habille-toi, on sort! cultural season, a historical novel revisited by Hugues Duchêne and performed by Maxime Taffanel, on Friday 20 March 2026 at 8.30pm, at Le Lion d'Angers.

Author and director Hugues Duchêne adapts Bertrand Guillot's historical novel. A virtuoso solo performance by Maxime Taffanel plunges us into the heart of the Estates General of 1789.
On the night of 4 August 1789, as the regime teeters on the brink of collapse and the people howl their anger, tension is at its highest in the National Assembly. In Versailles, the deputies unanimously adopted the universal tax and thus the abolition of privileges...
A drum beating, a single actor energetically portrays a dozen or so protagonists. It was the Night of 4 August.
The abolition of privileges is a sprint that gives the feeling that History has suddenly accelerated. The audience, spread around the stage, become witnesses for the duration of the performance to heated debates in which doubts, fears and hopes are confronted. A masterful lesson in theatre and history!
