Jazz Tangentes · Tatanka
Tatanka is a beautiful trio of surveyors, traversing inner landscapes and sonic exploration grounds with the same adventurous grace. Founded by trumpeter Emmanuelle Legros in 2017, Tatanka means 'buffalo' in the Sioux language: a word evoking nature and wide open spaces, which this trio transcribes wonderfully in its jazz flights of fancy. With its second album, Forêts, Tatanka has taken its already well-established taste for exploring physical, sensitive and sonic worlds a step further.
From figurative melodies to more abstract motifs, the piano and Fender Rhodes serve as perfect coverings for the rhythmic surges of the drums and the velvety sound and clear vocalisations of the trumpet. Rich in the art of detail (see the use of toy instruments and music boxes), streamlined when it widens the frame and dares the fresco format, Tatanka's music abounds in nuances that fuel a very singular poetic means of transport.
