Salon de Musique : Des Appalaches au Jazz Urbain

The autoharp was brought from southern Germany or Austria by settlers on their way to North America. This instrument, a sort of keyboard zither, became established in rural traditions as an accompaniment to songs.

The autoharp might well have remained an instrument confined to this rural music until a musician from Nantes, Patrick COUTON, decided to use it melodically. He began playing a wide variety of different music to demonstrate the instrument’s capabilities. Patrick has had a lasting influence on the instrument’s development. He will be performing as a duo with Andy ARLEO on mandolin and guitar.
