To mark the end of the exhibition ‘Of Earth and Breath: Clay Whistles from the Sarthe and Europe’, ceramicists Patricia Pérez and Lucie Becuwe will be on hand to demonstrate how whistles are made.
They will be using the potter’s wheel to create ‘coucous’ – bird-shaped whistles – in the style of Ludovic Barbé (1872–1952), the last ‘bimbelotier-turlotier’ potter from the Sarthe region.
Pierre Catanès, an expert on the subject and collector of whistles, as well as a lender and co-curator of the exhibition, will also be present to chat with the public.

Sunday 1 November: the museum is open from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm and from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm.
Whistle-making demonstration from 10.30 am to 12 noon and from 2.30 pm to 5 pm.
Free admission for all.
