Journée conviviale autour d'Ivan Illich

A programme of mini-lectures, a round-table discussion, and workshops on screen-printing, mechanical autonomy, free software and free music is on offer to celebrate the ideas of Ivan Illich, followed by a concert at 5.30 pm.

Ivan Illich, born 100 years ago, a priest and philosopher, had a profound and lasting influence on environmental thought. He was also a thinker on technology, centring on the concept of ‘conviviality’, which this event aims to celebrate.
What do installing a free operating system on your computer, repairing a bicycle’s derailleur, screen-printing a concert poster, and making music with free software have in common? These activities foster a creative and democratic relationship with technical objects, which Illich would certainly have described as ‘convivial’.
