‘No More Laughing! Political Humour at Attention?’ is a documentary that shows the cost of political humour in France. Les Cinéastes cinema is hosting a screening, in partnership with the LDH, followed by a discussion with the documentary’s editor, Etienne Milliès Lacroix, who is also a co-author of the investigation.
The investigation was carried out by the independent media outlet Off Investigation, with the aim of dissecting the power dynamics within media organisations. The documentary clearly illustrates the power of humour as a weapon of political subversion. These cases of comedians being silenced, put under pressure, censored or even sacked shed light on the changing landscape of the French broadcasting sector and the political climate. One of the key issues is to examine the invisible boundaries of freedom of expression in the French media.
