Esthétique du 33 tours

Talk by Thierry Jousse, author of the book "Vinyles de Légende". (Editions EPA/Radio France)

In the mid-1950s, the LP burst into almost every household. The length of an album changed the musical project, but to this aesthetic contribution we must add the development of an art form in its own right, that of the vinyl sleeves, some of which have become legendary.

Through a series of examples (Beatles, Velvet Underground or the Blue Note label), drawn from jazz, pop, soul and even Brazilian music, the aim of this conference is to identify the major musical and graphic aesthetics that marked the 33 rpm era, until the almost total disappearance of vinyl at the end of the 1980s. Or how music gave rise to a unique visual and graphic art form.
