Holden
"How to grow up, with all the dizzying and inescapable aspects that this sometimes entails, while at the same time trying to build your own path as freely as possible.
Lola, 16, would like to be someone else. She wants to be called Holden, like the character in Salinger's Catcher in the Rye, which she adores. While she waits for her best friend, with whom she has planned her elopement, she opens up to us and shares her lack of understanding of the world.
Lola wants to be called Holden. Not because she wants to identify with a boy, but because she'd like to be someone else. So if she has to choose, she might as well identify with someone she adores: Holden, the fascinating character in The Catcher in the Rye, the novel by J. D. Salinger.
Sixteen-year-old Lola has decided to run away. While she waits for her friend, with whom she has imagined this escape, she talks to us about herself, overwhelmed by confused and sometimes uncontrollable feelings. She's scared, even though she says the opposite, afraid to leave, to grow up, to change, .... Traversed by contradictory and uncontrollable feelings, between loneliness and fears, caught between childhood and the adult world, she gives us a glimpse of her vulnerability. Memories of her childhood come flooding back, as if to hold her back. Little by little, they will help her to understand the violence that inhabits her, that encumbers her, but which she tries so hard to contain. It is by trying to free herself from it that she will finally be able to chart her own course. These seemingly innocuous words in fact conceal a vulnerable and fragile inner state, a new understanding of the "adult world" as it can be observed when you are on its doorstep.
