The Ideal Abbey: a poetic reinvention of sacred space
Founded in 1109, this former Benedictine abbey has weathered the centuries, fires and periods of reconstruction, notably in the 17th century. Listed as a Historic Monument since 1994, it is now continuing its revival with the aim of becoming a place of creation, transmission and dialogue between heritage and contemporary art.
At the invitation of Maurizio Galante, an internationally renowned creator and designer, and Tal Lancman, a designer and scenographer recognised for his projects blending heritage, design and contemporary creation, alongside Alain and Annick Lelogeais and Magali Bertron, three artists are taking over the site to present a sensitive vision of the ‘ideal abbey’.
Visual artist Patrick Rocard, whose installations engage in dialogue with heritage sites, presents a unique creation, alongside Humberto Campana, a leading figure in international design, world-renowned for his works blending craftsmanship and innovation. Alongside them, Marine Martin-Ehlinger, author, director and actress, presents an original narrative, written and performed in the Abbess’s Garden.
These art installations sketch out an ideal vision of the abbey: a minimalist, almost timeless space, where each work invites contemplation. They offer a sensitive encounter between the past and the present, between the rigour of monastic architecture and the freedom of contemporary creation.
This artistic stroll offers an immersive experience, inviting everyone to take a fresh look at this exceptional place, where memory, spirituality and creativity intertwine poetically in a quest for harmony.
