European Heritage Days at Durtal Castle: a guided tour spanning the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

What if the walls of a castle could still reveal their deepest secrets to you? In Durtal, you need only step through the gate to sense that history is still very much alive. Perched on its rocky outcrop, Durtal Castle has overlooked the Loir Valley for nearly a thousand years. As you follow the guided tour, let yourself be transported from the medieval fortifications to the elegant Renaissance façades, imagining the footsteps of Henry II, Catherine de’ Medici or even Louis XIII in these very rooms.

For European Heritage Days, the experience takes on an even more vivid dimension thanks to the dramatised tours organised by the Balades du Temps Jadis Association. Characters from days gone by will take you on a journey where anecdotes, humour and heritage intertwine. A wonderful opportunity to discover this iconic Anjou landmark in a different light, to chat with enthusiasts who bring its history to life, and to enjoy a special moment with family or friends.

Practical information
- Friday: guided tours from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm (departures every 40 minutes).
- Saturday and Sunday: guided tours from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm
- Sunday: dramatised guided tours by the Balades du Temps Jadis Association from 2 pm to 6 pm (departures every 40 minutes).
Prices: €7 (adults) | €5 (aged 5–16, students and people with disabilities).
