During the European Heritage Days on 19 and 20 September 2026, come and explore the memorial on a guided tour.

The Misengrain Miners’ Memorial pays tribute to the slate miners who lost their lives deep within the Misengrain and La Gâtelière mines. Two slate steles bear the names of 38 victims who died between 1888 and 1975.
In particular, the memorial commemorates the tragedy of 15 November 1888, the worst mining disaster ever to have occurred at the site. A rockfall claimed 18 lives, 15 of whom were left buried.
During this guided tour, the history of the site and the memorial will be presented, followed by an actor reading from the report on the 1888 accident. The headframe of Shaft No. 6 and its extraction machinery, visible nearby, round off this exploration of Misengrain’s slate-mining heritage.
