L'Abolition des Privilèges - Le Royal Velours /Hugues Duchêne - Le Cargo

Following *Je m’en vais mais l’État demeure*, Hugues Duchêne adapts Bertrand Guillot’s historical novel *L’Abolition des Privilèges*. A virtuoso one-man show starring Maxime Pambet, plunging the audience into the very heart of the Estates-General of 1789.

It is a state in chronic deficit, where the wealthiest evade tax. A regime on its last legs. A people at the end of their tether, demanding justice and seeing no change on the horizon. A rich but paralysed country, at the mercy of a climate gone haywire. Such was France in the summer of 1789. Until, in the space of a single night in Versailles, everything changed. It was the Night of 4 August.

Performed in a four-sided stage by a single actor playing around ten characters, *The Abolition of Privileges* is a whirlwind that gives the impression that history has suddenly accelerated.
