Daniel Balavoine, the iconic artist of French chanson, left his mark on the 70s and 80s with unforgettable songs such as "L'Aziza", "Le Chanteur", "Tous les cris les SOS" and "Mon fils, ma bataille".
He came to public attention when Michel Berger offered him the role of Johnny Rockfort in the musical Starmania. For the occasion, he sported a rock-punk look and sang to perfection two songs that were to make him famous, "Quand on arrive en ville" and "SOS d'un terrien en détresse".
The public discovered an exceptional artist who would inspire a whole generation through his unique style, which blends rock, variety and pop influences.
Daniel Balavoine was also a fervent defender of causes close to his heart (notably education and the fight against poverty), and passionately tackled and defended social and humanitarian issues during his career, which was tragically cut short in 1986 in a helicopter accident.
Yet his musical legacy remains timeless, continuing to inspire artists and fans around the world and touching generations with its depth and authenticity.
