Oh Les Beaux Jours
A sensation of irrepressible, conscious sinking, accompanied by elegant resistance right to the end of the process. Winnie: a performance by an actress in a role created by Madeleine Renaud and the author Samuel Beckett, and revived at Le Passeur by Claire Boiron. Les Passagers
Two days under the sun, during which, buried in the earth up to her torso and then up to her neck, Winnie endures. Swallowed by the ground, she claims to be light. Occasionally leaning her words against the remains of her Willie, who is still stirring and perhaps still alive, she chatters in short bursts, prays, tells stories, sings and remembers, listing her last ills and her last possessions with the smiling serenity of someone who has been visited by a singular grace: what seems hellish to her is anything-goes, a word from Willie is a joy, a day without dying is a beautiful day. Measured and indulgent, she reigned over her misfortune.
