Phénix - Cie Käfig, Mourad Merzouki
Phénix breaks the mould by bringing together hip-hop dance, early music and electronic music in a fusion that is as unexpected as it is spellbinding.
At the centre of the stage, the musician Alice Trocellier plucks the strings of her viola da gamba, an iconic 18th-century instrument. Bathed in soft, enveloping light, the bodies of the four dancers surrounding her gradually come to life and take over the space. As the sounds transform, carried by Arandel’s electronic compositions, they swirl, soar and draw closer with intensity. Music and movement thus gradually merge. True to his penchant for artistic cross-pollination, choreographer Mourad Merzouki has created a sensory and poetic piece, in which differences become a veritable playground. A dialogue that transcends styles and eras!
