Portrait - CCN de Créteil & du Val de Marne - EMKA, Mehdi Kerkouche

Choreographer Mehdi Kerkouche draws on his family heritage as the basis for his choreography. A family portrait that is both moving and uplifting.

How does one assert one’s individuality within a family one has not chosen? How does one break free from it, or conversely, find refuge within it? A happy family, an embarrassing one, a toxic one, an absent one… so many realities to experience and overcome. Nine dancers, each with a vibrant personality, present a portrait of a contemporary family through a mosaic of energies and emotions. As the sequences unfold, bonds are forged and individualities assert themselves, whether in solos, duets or collective movements. Set to the organic music of Lucie Antunes, *Portrait* explores the bonds that unite us as much as those that shape us, where each person experiences joys, sorrows, losses and pleasures.
