A production of *Richard III* reimagined by the theatre company *La Poupée qui brûle*, on Friday 19 March 2027 at 8.30 pm, at Le Cargo in Segré.

This timeless work by Shakespeare is given a striking new interpretation here, in which manipulation and power unfold in a subtle interplay between fiction and reality.
Inspired by Japanese bunraku theatre, the production blends choreography with puppetry to reveal the character’s misanthropy.

Richard III tells the story of the meteoric rise and spectacular fall of a monster: Richard of Gloucester. This misshapen, incomplete being is prepared to do anything to achieve his ends and seize the throne of England. This prodigious tactician, this brilliant manipulator, excels in power struggles and games of influence: he is always one step ahead! But once he reaches the very top, having become Richard III, he is consumed by madness and fear. “The White Boar” will have to face his demons – and the rumbling revolt!

In this adaptation by Yoann Pencolé, we discover Richard as the sole actor amidst a court of life-size puppets, brought to life by three dancer-puppeteers. Richard will take control not only of the characters but also of the dancer-puppeteers, thus becoming the absolute master on stage. A collective realisation will take place through a liberating dance. Will it lead to the overthrow of the tyrant and the establishment of new rules of the game?
